Hello everyone! It’s been a while, uh? I promised myself to write something before the beginning of May, but I did not. It’s not like I was lazy or something, it’s just that I had my thoughts elsewhere.
By the by, some time ago I run a poll on twitter with three titles and, since in the end we didn’t have a winner (you cheaters I know you plotted against me! >:^( ), I decided to pick a new title and write about them later. I am planning to write a review every week starting now, I hope to be able to do such a thing. orz
Anyway! Today’s manga is Usotsuki no Heart (The Liar’s Heart) by Nobana Saori.
Usotsuki no Heart feature collected short stories: Usotsuki no Heart, Koi omoi hito kakera and Fetishism Lover.
First story is about the two guys you can see on the cover: Kashiwaya (on the right) and Kirihara (on the left). The two of them are classmates, but they hardly talk with each other. One day, before going to the bookstore, Kirihara finds Kashiwaya in the classroom who, startled, lets Kirihara see his crying face, but laughing he tells him it’s just because he fell asleep and shrug the whole thing off by asking Kirihara if he’s going home or not. Kirihara, on the other hand, is still troubled by what he just witnessed and so he rushes to the lockers and asks Yuuto if he wants to go home together. Somehow the relationship between the two classmates seems to get better; it’s so good that Kirihara at some point even dreams to kiss the crying Kashiwaya which leads to the realization he fell in love with him.
Second chapter features Kashiwaya’s past and his relationship with a Senpai in the basketball club, which he ends up dating. The same senpai who breaks his heart later… Talking about “Senpai”, on the way home with Kirihara, Kashiwaya run into his senpai who asks him if Kirihara is his “next man”. After leaving, Kashiwaya starts to cry but the drama ends soon because Kirihara ends up scolding and then conforting him.
In chapter three Kashiwaya finally unveil is past and the truth behind the relationship with his senpai. Kirihara then uses this opportunity to finally confess with an awkward “I… like Kashiwaya”. At this point we go through the cliché part in which they talk about being x being straight and male ecc, but even so Kashiwaya gives Kirihara a chance: he unbuttons his shirt and asks Kirihara if he could really kiss and have sex with someone of the same sex… guess what happens now? They do the do (♥).
Last part Kashiwaya finally gives a peace of his mind to his senpai leaving him speachless and gets all fluffy with Kirihara while also (and finally) confessing his love for him.
Second story, Koi omoi hito kakera, is about two collegues, Yugi and Hayama, which we find in a classical after-party situation. Hayama is accompaning his drank friend to the train station while he suddenly kiss him, leaving Hayama dumbfounded. Next day at work Hayama gets all clingy to Yugi which seems like his normal self, in fact, once Hayama asks him “about yesterday” he keeps acting like nothing happened, like he doesn’t remember.
Hayama can’t help but being concerned about the whole situation, so concerned that once at home he starts remembering the past and, obviously, the moments with Yugi; things that basically cause immetiately embarrassment for Hayama. Next day Hayama is being avoided by Yugi until he catches him in the bathroom where they can finally talk. The truth emerges and we find out that Yugi has been stalking somehow Hayama for a while and asks him if he finds it disgusting, but instead of what he’s expecting Yugi gets confessed to~.
Third and last story is about Toono and his senpai. Thanks to cats the two of them became friends and also thanks to cats their relationship became… deeper: one day Toono confesses by saying “wanna try going out” and his senpai accepts. What seems like a normal relationship between two people turns into a strange affair: while having sex, his senpai puts cat ears on him, saying he’s cute and then making him go out wearing those things. Toono at some point decides to return the cat ears to his senpai with whom has a talk in which he reveals this cat fetish of his. After hearing his senpai’s story, Toono still decides to keep their relationship for they lived happily ever after.
This is Nobana-sensei’s second work that I read. I really like her style, the stories like in every (well, it depends of course) BL I’ve read is a bit rushed, but I still think this was a nice pick. I loved each and every part of it! This is one of those mangas you read when you want to “feel good”. I mean, it’s perfect for when your stress is at its peak and you are looking for something refreshing. Definitely a good read who’ll pull you out from boredom~.
